I was in LA at Xmas and heard him there.
I have the BMG CD but want more. Do you have a discography? I know he's reluctant to get back into the limelight but are there any forthcoming gigs (sorry concerts!)? - especially in London.I know this is extremely unlikely.
Where can you get (pref.) CDs?
Can you recommend any other 'alternative lounge' ?
Thanks
Angus Taylor
Do you have ReSearch Books' "Incredibly Strange Music Vols I & II"? Vol II has a long interview with the man himself and as complete a discography as you'll find. Available from Tower/Virgin Book departments. My particular favourites are: "Other Worlds, Other Sounds", "Exploring New Sounds In Stereo", "Infinity in Sound" (2 vols), "The Genius of Esquival", "Latinesque", and "Esquivel '68".
I doubt if Esquivel is up to touring or any concert schedule as he is for the most part wheelchair bound due to a persistent back pain from an injury sustained several years ago.
The BMG CD is the only material available at this time; his albums have yet to be re-issued. However, antique copies might be found at Record Finders, 5639 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, California 90038. Their telephone number is (US) 213-931-2757.
Other than that, ther is a Martin Denny CD on Rhino Records (available in the UK on import; try Rough Trade Shop on UK 229-8541), but nothing else. Why not try and find original albums? I recommend also The Three Suns, Bob Thompson, Dick Schory, Henri Rene, Les Baxter and Enoch Light.
Good luck!
