Toronto has a new artist on the scene making noise with a new 12". The artist's name? Peach The single? M.C.'s Step Up.
The estimable Dream Warriors have released a second single, from their Subliminal Simulation album: California Dreams. Many choice remixes, but the LP version rules.
Props to the following locals: Ghetto Concept, Maestro Fresh Wes, Freaks of Reality, and The Rascalz. All have been nominated in the best rap recording in this year's Juno Awards (Canada's version of the American Music Awards). For the first time we finally have true underground representation in this category.
Mix tapes are slowly becoming a big part of Toronto's scene. Choices which deserve recognition: tapes by Mastermind, Soundquest (issued monthly), and the Jungle Science Crew. All can be purchased at both local record shops and hip-hop clothing stores.
Last but hardly least: CHRY 105.5 FM is changing Tuesday Night Live to an all hip-hop format. Look for debates, forums, LP reviews and interviews with big-name stars.
And check The Main Ingredient every week at The Horizontal Boogie Bar.
