Fans of Gary Panter (who range the earth, seeing as how GP has a shopping precinct named for him in Japan and draws a "Pacific Rim" strip called Dal-Tokyo) will rejoice to learn that his punk Everyman character Jimbo Stark will soon be back, big-time. Panter first gained fame for his Slash LP covers, for his Rozz-Tox Manifesto and for RAW anthology work -- not to mention his remarkable book "Invasion of the Elvis Zombies".

Texas-born Panter trained as a missionary, and his moral sense is mucho evident: albeit with the most post-modern twists. And, since his father managed a chain of Wacker's Dimestores, Panter grew up in a true Pop Art environment. Recently, his work has been most visible to browsers of "The New Yorker" magazine. But, this year, Jimbo will be a monthly comic -- from a company called Bongo. Bongo is the personal project of Matt Groening, creator of "Life in Hell" and the globally-worshipped phenomenon of "The Simpsons". And, as you might guess, he's a life-long Panter fan.
